"Monica" is a pretty easy-going song that didn't take as long to record as most of my other songs, about friends going separate ways, and a friendship dissolving. Something about the sound of the chorus reminds me of John Denver, and I can't explain it. This song is not attached to a particular album at this time. |
Oh, would we ever go back to an easy day By now it's been a long time gone since we've parted ways If I had stayed your friend would you still need to change Maybe we'd have found your wolf man out where the rain Turns the sky the deepest blue Oh, when did we turn away from the bond over all those days I hear you've got a kid now, but I never learned its name When I see how far we've gone the distance feels so strange I recall the day when you told me to never change Oh, Monica Where did our paths divide? Monica When did our friendship die Monica Oh, once in a great long while, the Gallaghers on the radio Bring me back to your old pickup truck, singing loud out the window Driving off to god-knows-where, planning trips into the unknown But those days are gone, and now I go the way alone (Yeah) Oh, Monica Where did our paths divide? Monica When did our friendship die (Yeah) Oh, Monica Where did our paths divide? Monica (Yeah) Why did we let it die? Monica... |
